Day 1 — Arrive · Lungomare
Arrive and settle into your hotel. An easy first evening walking the Lungomare, Naples' seafront promenade, with Castel dell'Ovo rising from the water and Vesuvius silhouetted across the bay. Dinner your first night at one of the historic pizzerias — Da Michele or Sorbillo, both contenders for the birthplace of the Margherita.
Day 2 — Archaeological Museum · Underground Naples
A full day in the historic center, starting with the Naples Archaeological Museum, home to the mosaics, frescoes, and treasures excavated from Pompeii and Herculaneum. In the afternoon, head underground for a tour of Napoli Sotterranea, the network of Greek and Roman aqueducts, cisterns, and WWII bomb shelters carved beneath the city. Visit the Cappella Sansevero to see the Veiled Christ, one of the most extraordinary sculptures in Italy.
Day 3 — Spanish Quarter · Catacombs
Wander into the Spanish Quarter, Naples' dense grid of narrow alleys strung with laundry lines, for a day of wandering, street food, and people-watching. Visit the Catacombs of San Gennaro, an early Christian burial site with faded frescoes predating the city's more famous churches above ground. Stay in the Spanish Quarter for dinner at one of its no-frills trattorias.
Day 4 — Pompeii
A day trip to the ruins of Pompeii, the Roman city frozen in time by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Wander the forum, villas, and preserved streets with a guide to bring the ancient city back to life, including its famous mosaics and frescoes still visible in situ.
Day 5 — Mount Vesuvius
Hike the volcano that buried Pompeii. A trail leads up to the crater rim, with views stretching over the Bay of Naples on a clear day. Return to Naples for the afternoon to explore at your own pace, or keep working through the pizza list — Naples has no shortage of contenders.
Day 6 — Depart
A slower final day. Wander through more of the historic center, browse the shops along Via Toledo, and take one last walk along the Lungomare as the sun sets over the bay. A final dinner together to close out the trip.
