Old Head & Southwest Ireland

Linksland from Old Head to Ballybunion, with a manor house and a peat fire to come home to.

Southwest Ireland is the trip we send when a client wants the trip they'll measure all future golf trips against. The courses you've heard of — Old Head, Ballybunion, Lahinch, Waterville, Tralee — sit within driving distance of one another, and the hotels in between are some of the finest in Europe. This is a one-of-one routing we've refined over twenty-five years of bringing clients here.

The week we build

Eight nights, three bases: a manor on the cliff at Old Head, a country house in Killarney, and a final two nights at Adare for the room with the view of the river. Six rounds, paced. A full day off in the middle for a private guide through the Ring of Kerry, or a boat across to the Skelligs if the weather holds.

We move clients by private driver — not because it's a luxury but because the roads are narrow, the tee times are tight, and you should be looking at the country, not the map.

What makes it work

The wind. The light at four o'clock in the afternoon when you're on the seventeenth at Old Head and the lighthouse goes very quiet. The small bar at Tralee where the local farmer will tell you which line to take on the par-three sixteenth. The peat fire at the manor when the round runs over. None of these can be booked online. All of them are why we send clients here.

Who it suits

Buddies trips of four to twelve. Couples who play. Multigenerational groups where the grandparents want country house and the kids want links — Ireland holds both at once.

When to plan

Tee times open eight to ten months out at the major courses. Adare Manor and the manor at Old Head book further ahead. We start booking October trips the previous January.
