Switzerland is not a complicated sell. The mountains justify themselves. What takes work is the logistics — the right hotel for a family that wants both black tie and ski lessons in the same week, the instructor who connects with a six-year-old on the first morning and stays with her for three days, the kids club that runs until midnight on New Year's Eve so the adults can actually be present at theirs. That is the trip we design.
The trip we design
Andermatt has become one of the great Alpine destinations in Europe — quieter than Verbier, less processed than Zermatt, and anchored by The Chedi, which is genuinely one of the finest mountain hotels on the continent. We use it as the base for family ski weeks, New Year's trips, and milestone celebrations that need a setting equal to the occasion.
The structure is typically six nights in Andermatt with one night in Zurich on the way home — enough time to walk the old town, cross the Limmat, and have a fondue the children will request every winter for the next decade. Private transfers from Zurich airport. Ski Butler handles equipment. Private instructors on the mountain. We pre-book the llama trek, the New Year's gala, the mid-mountain lunches that require a reservation — the details that are easy to miss and impossible to recover once you're there.
Who it suits
Families with young children who want a proper ski holiday, not a managed resort experience. Couples marking a milestone who want the Alps without the crowds of the major resorts. Groups who want to share a table on New Year's Eve in a room that has earned the occasion.
What we get right
The Chedi is the right hotel, but it needs to be booked correctly — room category, dining reservations, Kids Club enrollment, Ski Butler coordination. Private instructors through Alpine Sports need to be confirmed months in advance, particularly over the holiday period. The New Year's gala fills. The llama trek fills. We handle all of it.
When to plan
Eight to twelve months for Christmas and New Year's. The Chedi's holiday period is in demand year-round. Shoulder season — January through March — is more forgiving, but private instructors and the better rooms still go early.
